Santa's Helpers needs your help

Bring Joy to the less fortunate this holiday season.

Bring Joy to the less fortunate this holiday season.

It is time to support Santa's Helpers, who keep the long-time Fairbanks tradition of Santa's Clearing House going strong.

In addition to providing a financial accounting umbrella, NSCF is providing online donation collection for contribution to the Santa's Helpers project.

With community support, families will receive a week’s worth of staples, a holiday meal and gifts for each child under age 18.

Online donations can be made via credit card, PayPal account or by sending a check. The campaign to cover expenses will remain open until the end of the year.

Santa's Helpers inherits a rich history of community service and provides an invaluable function to the less fortunate in the Fairbanks area. Santa’s Helpers maintains the practice of community referrals to continue to have neighbors helping neighbors and you are encouraged to contact us on behalf of families who could use a hand.

Santa's Helpers epitomizes the essence of community by taking recommendations for worthy recipients of food and gift packages, allowing the local communities a hand in the charitable process.

Fairbanks News-Miner employees started Santa’s Clearing House in 1951. The Clearing House's operations center, Santa's Workshop, was located in the former railroad depot, downtown behind the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.

In 2013, the community-supported charity distributed gifts for children and food boxes to about 900 families and seniors.

The food bill, in the neighborhood of $60,000, was paid for with donations from the community. Gifts for children came from the community. Volunteers from the community provided the labor while the News-Miner provided administrative and managerial support.

The goal for 2016 is $50,000 above and beyond donations of food, toys and books.

This year the project has moved online through the support of the North Star Community Foundation, which hopes to level the playing field for Santa's helpers with internet support.
